Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) April 18, 2007 — Shield Plus LLC, a #1 ranked institutional investment adviser, registered as a CTA/CPO, is launching the Shield Plus 90, LP — Alternative Energy & Inflation Fund. This Fund enables institutions and other accredited investors to participate directly in the alternative energy and inflation-related markets through a market-neutral investment approach.

Shield Plus Alternative Energy & Inflation Fund

Performance: The strategy for the Shield Plus Alternative Energy & Inflation Fund has achieved a cumulative net total return of 356.21% from 1/16/2004 to 12/29/2006; this performance is ranked #1 over the past three years for option-based strategies in “The Barclay Institutional Report” (source: Barclay Trading Group, Ltd.); accredited investors can view current returns at www.shieldplus.com/.

Protection: The Fund’s market-neutral approach creates the opportunity (not the guarantee) to capture gains regardless of market direction; Shield Plus investment strategies use only fully-covered positions with no borrowed leverage.

Investment Objective & Portfolio Management: To simultaneously provide the potential for capital appreciation and preservation by employing a market-neutral investment approach. Such an approach combines two opposing positions, such as a long put & long call, and may make money as one position’s gain more than offsets the other’s loss regardless of market direction. Under such combined call & put positions, a loss may be realized if the market remains stable. To enhance the likelihood of capital appreciation, the fund’s investment approach pursues market-neutral positions in the most volatile energy, raw material and inflation-related markets (such as crude oil, natural gas, ethanol and other renewable energy sources, gold, corn, etc.). Emphasis will be placed on achieving protected, absolute returns over a rolling two-year horizon rather than superior performance relative to an index or other benchmarks.

Summary of Shield Plus by Alaron, an independent broker:

I want to tell you about Shield Plus, a CTA who trades energy and inflation-related markets. The fund is known to use options and “go long volatility,” a strategy that benefits when markets significantly move in one direction or another. Their strategy is often to purchase long term options or option spreads such as butterflies or iron condor strategies on both sides of a market. The strategy is considered market-neutral in that it may not matter in which direction a market moves, but just that the market moves and experiences volatility. Volatility in the markets traded by Shield Plus often results from times of economic uncertainty or international crisis.

The fund is run by Jim Mahnke and Ed Schulz, each who have over 20 years institutional investment experience. The CTA has posted performance of +143.34% in 2004 and +83.24% in 2005 — both years of volatile action in the energy and commodity markets. Performance in 2006 — a year of declining energy prices and volatility — has been just +2.31%.

Shield Plus is a good CTA to consider as a hedge to traditional S+P option selling programs, which are essentially short options premium and thus short volatility. Based on past performance, the S+P option selling programs have a history of delivering consistent returns during times of economic certainty and international stability. By contrast, during such times the Shield Plus program has posted moderate returns. However, during times of economic uncertainty or international tumult, the Shield Plus program has a past history of generating significant returns while the option selling program has a history of generating moderate or negative performance. Please note that past performance is not indicative of future results.
