The Université Paris II Panthéon-Assas and the Rencontres d’Arles are teaming up for a groundbreaking approach to the debate over major social issues by bringing specialists from the worlds of academics, business, media and photography together.
The partnership starts with “The Heavens. Annual Report”, an exhibition of work by Paolo Woods and Gabriele Galimberti (produced for Arles in 2015) accompanied by panel discussions on aesthetic, legal, social, cultural and historical issues.The show gives us a glimpse into a secret world that is very different from the one we usually enjoy imagining. For over two years, Woods and Galimberti travelled to the offshore centers of tax evasion, secrecy and extreme wealth, from Delaware to Jersey, the British Virgin Islands and the City of London. Guided by a driving obsession, they turned ideas into images.
[box]Tax havens are not an exotic eccentricity but a structural instrument of the globalized economy. They confront us with fundamental moral problems and prompt questions on the relationship between the public and private sectors, countries and companies, rich and poor. [/box]
Two panel discussions will focus on the semiotics of the image and tax policy:
